Move over disruptors. Are you “high agency”?

The latest tech buzzword has evolved from “disruptor” to high agency. But what does that really mean?

High agency involves developing the capacity to act effectively and independently to achieve goals. Key aspects include:

1. Taking ownership of outcomes rather than blaming circumstances. When faced with obstacles, focus on what you can control and influence.

2. Building relevant skills and knowledge continuously. Research thoroughly, learn from experts, and develop expertise in areas important to your goals.

3. Creating clear action plans and following through. Break down big goals into concrete steps, establish metrics, and maintain accountability.

4. Cultivating a strong sense of self-efficacy through progressive wins. Start with achievable goals and gradually tackle bigger challenges.

5. Developing robust mental models and decision-making frameworks. Study systems thinking, probability, and cognitive biases to make better choices.

The most direct path to higher agency is taking immediate action on something meaningful to you, learning from the results, and iterating based on feedback.
