Who gets credit?

It is a common belief that great leaders take credit for failure, and share success with others. But how do you make each the right kind of learning experience for forward action for all involved? While some decisions are solo or dictated, many involve ensemble players. In the worst case, the former can lead to “malicious compliance” and abandonment in execution and failure, and jealousy or detachment in success. In the best case, it will be seen as bravery, protection and vision. The latter will often have a more constructive outcome, in success or failure, if it is evaluated on contribution. In all cases, it is important to ask why - so we can repeat or alter going forward.
